Textile Mapping: Intersection

Project No.08
Project Overview
To explore the community’s relationship with an intersection: complete a site visit and document the obscure and mundane, seek patterns, create stamp(s), stamp textile and community board, and let the community use stamps to build new relationships.
Inspiration
Amid bustling traffic, cracked sidewalks, and gated construction stood a lone 2x3-inch bus sign, yet no accompanying bus stop. While the stop had since relocated to the center traffic lane, the braille remained. Perplexed, I came to question what defines accessibility. Surely the intersection with detectible warning pavers and accessible pedestrian signals must be accessible, right?

This textile explores the buzz and inaccessibility of the city with each dot size and corresponding color spelling bus in braille. The healthy human eye will see the color difference and most likely not be able to read the word, while the blind eye may be able to decipher the letters if they stood alone but will not be able to read the word because of the overlapping colors.
What's Missing?
Community members chose stamps that are missing from the picture above to use in different projects around the city.
We may ask ourselves why they chose what they chose and how they will be used.
